1. New York and Brooklyn from Michael_Novakhov (111 sites): Brooklyn Eagle: Bomb threat at de Blasio’s YMCA deemed unfounded

An emotionally disturbed woman hates Mayor Bill de Blasio so much that she called his YMCA on Wednesday with racist threats to blow up the gym — and a bunch of other YMCAs around the city, according to police and news reports.

All the threats were unfounded, cops said, and the NYPD’s Emergency Service Unit was not deployed to any of the YMCA branches, a spokesperson for the cops told the Brooklyn Eagle.

The woman said in her threats that she hated the mayor, according to cops. De Blasio launched a bid for the presidency in May.

“He likes black people and is running for president,” the caller allegedly said, according to the Daily News.

Police did not immediately say which other YMCAs the woman threatened to blow up.

The mayor did not arrive at the YMCA this morning until after the gym was deemed safe, according to a de Blasio spokesperson.

Earlier this month, his Park Slope gym was shut down for a more pedestrian reason: water contamination.

De Blasio’s insistence on being driven from Gracie Mansion to Park Slope nearly daily to work out has irked many New Yorkers and drawn the ire of the local press for years.

The Brooklyn Bridge: Michael Novakhov – SharedNewsLinks℠: Rosselló’s Chief of Staff Resigns | Online Features

Ricardo Llerandi, a close aide to Gov. Ricardo Rosselló, also jumped off the ship. Six months after becoming the governor´s Chief of Staff, Llerandi will leave his post on July 31.

He departs in the midst of a wave of relentless protests demanding that Rosselló step down and initiate a peaceful transition of power.

In a letter to Rosselló, Llerandi thanked the embattled politician for entrusting him with various appointments and said it was a privilege to serve his country.

“I was blessed with an extraordinary team and had the best time of my professional life leading the initiative PR Emprende,” he said in reference to his tenure as head of the Puerto Rico Trade and Export Company. “Working with wonderful people from the business world while fostering new businesses, young entrepreneurs and promoting the expansion of businesses offshore is something that I will always cherish in my heart.”

Llerandi indicated that in recent days, he had received threats and was concerned with his family´s safety.

“The last few days have been extremely difficult for everyone. At this historical juncture, it is up to me to put the welfare of my family before any other consideration. I can tolerate threats against me, but I won´t allow them to affect my home. My wife and children are everything to me. That is my main duty,” Llerandi stated…

Llerandi was elected to the Puerto Rico House of Representatives in 2012 to represent District 14 that includes the municipalities of Arecibo and Hatillo. After being reelected in 2016, he resigned to lead the Puerto Rico Trade and Export Company. In January, he left the position to become Chief of Staff.

The former representative had been under fire after refusing to apologize for his participation in the now infamous chat riddled with derisive text messages between the governor and his inner circle.

Last Friday, Rosselló’s press secretary Denisse Pérez resigned after a person tried to shame her by calling her “corrupt” in front of her son, according to her letter of resignation, and Gerardo Portela, the president of the Economic Development Bank of Puerto Rico and executive director of the Housing Finance Authority announced his departure on Sunday.

Hours after the pages of the polemic chat were made public, two of its members resigned: the U.S. territory’s CFO Christian Sobrino, who is also the governor’s representative to the control board left his post immediately, while Secretary of State Luis Rivera Marín will leave at the end of the month.

Since the civil unrest started, key allies have distanced themselves from Rosselló creating doubts on his ability to stay in office until the end of his term. He already announced that he will not seek reelection and ceded his position as head of the pro-statehood party. He also promised to defend himself during impeachment proceedings.
